Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) is an office procedure performed to evaluate the source of an abnormal pap smear. LEEP is a way to remove abnormal cells from the cervix ( the opening to the uterus). LEEP uses a thin electrified wire loop that cuts away a thin layer of the cervix. The tissue will be sent to the lab to be studied and confirm the diagnosis. Recovery time is brief in most cases.
