Cesarean birth is the birth of a baby through surgical incisions made in the abdomen and uterus. The baby will be delivered through the incisions, the umbilical cord cut, and then the placenta will be removed. The uterus will be closed with stitches that will dissolve in the body. Staples or stitches are used to close your skin. Some reasons for a Cesarean birth may be:
- Large baby
- Multiple pregnancy
- Failure of labor to progress
- Concern for the baby
- Problems with the placenta
- Medical conditions
- Previous cesarean birth
